Chapter 10: Newell Factory Tour And 2017 Coach Overview & Walkthrough

As you may have read, one of my stops during my Learn to Drive adventure took place at Foretravel in Nacogdoches, Texas.

While the result was positive, my initial impression was one of frustration and left me scratching my head. As stated in the story, the trip ended on a positive note and during my second visit I produced this overview of Foretravel’s IH-45 motor coach with Foretravel’s Darrell Luce. After spending some time with Luce and learning more about Foretravel, I have great respect for the coaches created and designed within his department. As you can see in the photo below, much thought and craftsmanship goes into the coaches that roll off Foretravel’s line.

The IH-45 model is truly a gorgeous coach and built by a company that has a strong reputation for quality and reliability. It’s definitely worth a strong look by anyone considering a coach of this caliber.

So, how did my experience at Newell Coach compare to my visit to Foretravel? Simply stated, it was different. If you go back through this series it seems that “expect the unexpected” would be the appropriate theme, so, I truly wasn’t sure what to expect.

I flew into Tulsa airport and drove nearly two hours before arriving at the Newell factory. However, for a moment I thought the GPS that provided incorrect directions as when the voice stated “You have arrived at your destination,” there was nothing but open fields within eyesight.

Oh crap, am I even in the right State? Did Newell move and neglect to provide me the updated address? Could the Newell Management had viewed my previous reviews and sent me on a wild goose chase?

So, I kept driving a couple a few more minutes before considering if I should stop and ask for directions. Then, in the distance, I viewed a parking lot filled with what had to be Newell coaches.

As it turned out, for some odd reason the fine folks who provide data to the GPS manufacturers have incorrectly plotted Newell’s location. So, if you’re heading there, just keep driving and don’t stop until you see some gorgeous coaches adoring it’s facility.

The moment I entered the front door of Newell’s Oklahoma offices, I knew this was different. My first encounter was with Jessica at the front desk. As soon as I told her I was here to see Brian Pitts, she looked at me and said, “You must be Andy…he’s expecting you.”

That greeting alone, when compared to my seemingly lost appointment at Foretravel, spoke volumes. I then saw my name on a “welcome” board facing the entry door and was ushered by Jessica to the customer lounge.
